Well hello again my lovelies!  Welcome to the first blog of the New Year!

Awards season is officially here!!

If you watched the Golden Globes you probably saw all the glitz and the glamour from the red carpet. The gowns, the jewels, the perfect hair and makeup… Well for some people!

Then there were those that forced us to sit and wonder… what in the world were their stylists thinking! 

So here are the Best and Worst dressed choices from Kathy, myself, and one of our clients who had such a fantastic description of oh so many starts style.

My best dressed was by far was Evan Rachel Wood. Wearing a Gucci Premiere gown and Fred Leighton Jewels, Wood sparkled! An emerald concoction of sequins, beads and feathers, the gown fit her perfectly and was complimented by simple but elegant jewels! This was the only gown on the red carpet that made my jaw drop. 

My close second for best dressed was Zooey Deschanel in Prada, with Van Cleef and Arpels Jewels. Talk about sassy!! I love the mix of green and black. No one but Zooey could have pulled this dress off and the hair and makeup was a perfect match to this chic yet quirky dress.

Kathy’s best dressed were Charlize Theron, Kate Beckinsale, and Reese Whitherspoon.

Charlize glowed in a blush pink Dior gown, with touches of Cartier jewelry. This gown was frothy yet elegant and as usual Charlize wore this gown with effortless grace.  

Kate Beckinsale was glowing perfection in a fit and flair Roberto Cavalli gown with corset type bodice. This is the thing that Hollywood stars of days gone by are made of.

Reese Witherspoon wowed in a fiery red Zac Posen gown with touches of Fred Leighton jewelry. We always expect great things from Reese and this year was no different. She is the only person who could pull off slightly tussled sexy hair with a full on glam gown and make it look oh so natural!

I would also like to give major props to Ariel Winter. This young lady is 14, and clearly someone who is managing this girl has the presence of mind to make sure that she dresses like a 14-year-old girl, not a 24 year old. She wore a fabulous, violet, Dolce and Gabbana dress. Perfection!

And now for the worst…. I like to think of this as when bad clothes happen to beautiful stars.

By far my worst dressed was the future Mrs. Timberlake, Jessica Biel in Marc Jacobs… I mean this girl has a rockin’ bod and such a beautiful face! Why on earth would you or your stylist pick out a dress that simply does nothing for you! Grandma called and she wants her doilies back!

And this year I wanted to include this review of the red carpet by one of our lovely clients with a wicked sense of humor and style!  So here are Rhonda’s Picks for best and worst dressed at the golden globes!

Pretty ladies in bad dresses: 1) Michelle Williams, 2) Jessica Biel, borrowed great great grannies wedding gown and one of her boobs, for a total of three, 3) Julianna Marguiles, Alexander the grape otter pop.

 

Best by far, Emma Stone, distant second Zooey Deschanel, and I liked the hair and makeup.

Older ladies who should know better: 1) Meryl Streep (who actually seemed annoyed to be winning "would you please just recognize somebody else for a change?") cowgirl complete with miniature horse hidden under her skirt. 2) Madonna in an overly busy dress designed by Lourdes? 3)Tilda, Tilda, Tilda - at least your very weirdness is a form of consistency.

 

And there you have it my dears… The best and the worst. Now we wait with great anticipation for the Oscars!! 

Tan Towels and Kiehl's Creme De Corps body lotion

Are you ready for pre-summer glow to chase away the spring blues? Tan Towels can help! Each individually wrapped towelette contains a citrus scented sunless tanner that will leave your skin with a beautiful bronze glow. Tan Towels come in two shades, Classic and Plus. Classic is best for those who are very fair or would like a very subtle glow. The Plus towels are great for those with darker skin who tan easily, or anyone who would like a darker bronze look over night. Tan towels also come in two sizes, Full body and half body. Half body is recommended for use on your face, neck, décolleté, and arms. You could also use the half body for a quick touch up after a few days.

  Best time to apply this tanner is at night right after a shower. Make sure that you exfoliate well. Exfoliating mitts work best with your regular body wash. Do not use a body scrub as most of these contain some kind of oil that will prevent the tanner from being absorbed in to your skin.

 Once you have exfoliated and dried off select the Tan Towel size you with to use. Before you unfold the towel quickly rub it over your skin in circular motions. Once this is done you can unfold the towel and rub over your skin in circular motions again. The circular motion is important to prevent streaks. It is best to use this sparingly around your elbows, knees and on your feet as skin tends to be dryer on these areas. Once you have finished with the towel take your body lotion (Kiehl's Creme de Corps works amazingly well because of its plain scent and non-greasy feel) and apply a generous amount to your skin again in circular motions. This will help insure that you will have perfectly even color that lasts.

Wash your hands immediately with soap to ensure that you don’t have tan palms in the morning!

All you have left to do now is go to sleep and wake up with perfectly tan and glowing skin!

If you care to apply your Kiehl’s body lotion again in the morning you can. This will give your skin a perfect dewy look.

Not only are these towels easy to use, but because they are a towel in a foil package you can travel with them too! Just make sure to place them in a plastic zip lock bag to ensure they are not punctured by anything else in your makeup bag. Kiehl’s Creme De Corps comes in many sizes including a large size with a pump for easy use, and a small travel size!

Nars Illuminator in Laguna!

It’s at this time of year we are all looking for a little glow. The weather is rainy and gray and not all of us can go to Hawaii for a week to get that natural beach bunny shine. Now you don’t have to! Nars illuminator in Laguna is a yet another brilliant creation by the Nars cosmetics line. This bronze gel is such a versatile product its worth making it a staple in your makeup bag.

Simply add a drop or two to your existing foundation and mix on the back of your hand before applying. This will add a bit of bronze color to your foundation while making your foundation last a little longer as your skin tone gets progressively darker through the spring in to summer. Another option is to apply just a dab to a makeup sponge and dab along your cheek bones, temples or anywhere else the sun would naturally tan your skin. Voila instant glow! No time for a sunless tan? Add a few drops to your body lotion. (I would recommend Khiels Crème de corps) the combination of this super rich but non greasy lotion and the illuminator will give your whole body a glow without the chemical smell of a spray tan and in a lot less time.

This product is available in many colors! A light pearlescent “Copacabana”, the ever popular peachy pink “Orgasm”, and for a little extra golden peachy glow, “Super Orgasm”!



How to Create Perfect Red Lips!

This is everything you will need to know to create a perfect bright red or pink lip!

Supply list

·         Lip Balm

·         Concealer and concealer brush

·         Lip pencil and lipstick in matching colors

·         Angle brush

·         Tissues

Bright, bold red lips are still all the rage going in to spring 2011. Here is our step by step best way to achieve this very classic beauty look! Stars like Ann Hathaway and Gwen Stefani are frequently spotted wearing this very classic look.

                                   

  

First start with well exfoliated lips, you can start with a product like Smashbox Emulsion Lip Exfoliate (available at Sephora), or you can use your toothbrush by gently rubbing it across your upper and lower lip.

After you have exfoliated and dried your lips, apply Rosebud Salve lip balm (also available at Sephora) this helps keep your lips well moisturized under the lipstick you will be applying.

Now to create an even toned pallet, apply concealer to the entire lip area.

Now for the color!

First you will want to have a lip color and pencil in colors that match as close as possible… The lip pencil will help to create a good base as well as a sharp outline to follow.

Apply your freshly sharpened lip pencil to the outline of your lips, then fill in your lips with the same pencil. This will help your lipstick stick and stay put.

Next wipe a small amount of your lipstick on to a small angle brush and start by apply the lip color to the outer corners of the top lip and work in to the center and repeat on the other side and bottom lip.

Once you have your lips lined with your lipstick start to fill in your lips then blot.

Re-apply the lip color for a more bold hue and blot again. Repeat this step a few times until you achieve your desired hue.  This will also make your lip color last much longer.  Need to touch up around your lip line? Use a foundation brush with a little concealer and touch up around your lips.

Were Obsessed!

Here at the studio we have one product we are all absolutely obsessed with! Moroccan Oil!! This is a universal hair saver. It doesn’t matter what your hair texture or weight is this will work for you!

This bottle may look small but don’t be fooled this is product packs a punch of hydration while it repairs. The Specially processed Argan Oil helps eliminate split ends, restore elasticity and speeds drying time by 40%!!  Apply a dime size amount to wet hair and style as usual. You can also use a drop of the oil emulsified in your hands to tame frizz!

Celebs like Kate Walsh, known for her glossy red locks, love this product to keep her hair super shiny. Fabulous Fall Trends!!!

What do leopard, Bridgette Bardot, and neutral colors all have in common? They are all fabulous new fall trends! 

Open any magazine from the last two months and I guarantee that you can’t help but notice all the leopard! And why not?? Here at the studio we consider animal print to be a neutral… In other words it goes with everything!!!  From Leopard print booties, to handbags, to trench coats, Leopard is here to stay. Here are a few of our favorite leopard trends!

    

Briditte Bardot’s hair and makeup style has been inspiring trends season after season and this fall is no different. Designers like Prada, Valentino, and Vera Wang have all sampled her effortlessly sexy look. Her perfectly disheveled bed head hair and cat eye makeup combine for a look that men crave and women strive to emulate! Achieving that sex kitten look is easier than you think! Start by sprinkling a little texturizing powder like Kevin Murphy Powder Puff at your roots and back comb, back comb, back comb! A little texturizing powder goes a long way. For those seductively fabulous cat eyes start by lining with a liquid liner like Stila’s “stay all day” liquid liner and winging the edges out past your lash line. Add a few coats of black mascara and voila!! You will be turning heads in no time!

This fall Gray, purple, and camel are the colors of choice for almost every designer.  From chunky knit sweaters, to thick cashmere coats, even suede pumps; everything is in these colors. Designers like Michael Kors are featuring these colors in their current collections! You can never go wrong with a well fitting piece in a neutral color. Nude or camel pumps will always make your legs look a million miles long. Pair them with a chic sweater dress and your ready for a fabulous fall night out!
